Remember going out to see bands? The sticky-hot thrill of live music and late-night revelry? The new single from Andrea & Mud is a joyous reminder of those long Atlanta nights where mischief and smoky bars intermingled with an overriding sense that anything could happen. In other words, it’s rowdy and loud, with a nice dose of shit-eating humor mixed in. If you’re not yet hip to the duo’s raucous surf-western sound, imagine if Junior Brown grew up on a steady diet of South Park, Doritos, and weed.
“Yer Majesty” begins where many great nights do did—drunkenly leaving Star Bar, with plenty of flavor from Mud Mosley’s chicken-picked Telecaster. What follows is a duet that captures the intensity of Carter-Cash’s “Jackson” but through a funhouse mirror where each thrilling hairpin turn pulls you deeper into Andrea & Mud’s hypnotic vocals. The song ends with the promise to do all that boot-scooting mayhem again real soon.
Listening to the song’s outlandish tale, we figured there had to be a backstory worth sharing. And, man, we weren’t disappointed.
