With its Alan Jackson guitar twang and some dreamy pedal steel, Elijah Ocean’s new song “Thirty-Five” is straight out of a Nineties jukebox. The rambling singer-songwriter and Maine native, who landed in Nashville after detours in Brooklyn and L.A., released the song on Monday as the first taste of his upcoming album Born Blue.
Interestingly enough as we transition from gig-free time to full-on touring, there are artists ready to come out of hiding at just the right time. Toledo native Ben Stalets certainly has a way with words and melody that throws him into a poignant concoction that blends the rootsy sounds of Wilco, Amos Lee, Tim Buckley, and Smog. Stalets has coined the most forthright artistic statement on his new LP Everybody’s Laughing due out 8/27/21.
