One question has been on the minds of a lot of music fans the last couple of years: What even is Americana? A better question might ask what it isn’t because as genre lines continue to dissolve, the definition of Americana continues to expand. But if there’s any authority on the matter, it’s AMERICANAFEST, the annual SXSW-style festival that brings upwards of 300 legends and showcasing artists alike to Nashville for six days of roots music in all its forms.

On June 7, Charleston, SC band the High Divers will release a new EP, Ride With You. Ahead of the EP’s release, the band has shared the new track “Still Kickin’,” premiering below. As frontman Luke Mitchell explains it, the song was inspired by a terrible wreck the band had while touring through Arizona. A semi-truck t-boned the band’s van, with members landing in the hospital with serious injuries.
Falling under the spell of singer-songwriter Malin Pettersen is not a difficult thing to do. It took me all of one old school country tune that I watch this wonderful talent from Norway perform in an old school bar in the shadow of Graceland during this year’s Ameripolitan Awards festivities. Her voice was clear to the point of fragility and her stage presence was understated yet commanding. It was a wonder to behold…
